Department of Sociology

The Department of Sociology established in the year 1991 with faculty of Arts. The department started with Graduate programme Bachelor of Arts.
Dr. Arun D. Chauhan, is heading the department. He has been actively participating in various kinds of academic activities such as seminar, workshop, Conferences organized at national as well as international level. He visited Austria and Thailand to participate in International Conference. He is a Member of Board of Studies, Member of Academic Council and a co-opted member of SNDT University Mumbai, Shivaji University, Kolhapur, North Maharashtra University and Gondwana University, Gadchiroli. 14 Research Scholars have been awarded with Doctoral degrees under his supervision. His erudite scholarship proves to be helpful in many ways to enrich the academic fronts. He has published 09 books and around 30 research papers in the reputed journals. He had also completed 01 research projects sponsored by UGC.
Seminar, group discussion, unit test and audio-visual techniques are adopted in order to make teaching learning more effective. Small projects based on social issues are given to the students so that they become familiar with the social conditions and practices prevailing in the society. Efforts are made to make the teaching and learning of the subject not only effective but also interesting. As a result of which the results of the university examination are constantly at a high scale.
For the overall development of students various activities are conducted throughout the year. Department organizes Guest Lectures of eminent personalities on various topics related to social issues are arranged for students. It is a routine practice of the department, to arrange educational tours and visits to local places such as Tapovan, Matoshri Vruddhashram, Narendra Bhivapurkar Blind School. Besides regular teaching, these co-curricular activities help many students to clear the competitive examinations.
