Vidya Bharati Mahavidyalaya was established in 1972 as a Science College at the UG level, in Amravati. Later the Departments of Commerce, Humanities, Social Sciences, Cosmetic Technology and Management Studies were started and alongside these, PG in Science under the Faculty of interdisciplinary subjects with Research Centers for Doctoral Research in 13 Programmes came to be added. Over a period of four decades, the institution has made remarkable progress in its present site with a vast campus in an elite residential area. It has flourished as a multidisciplinary and multifaceted leading institution in this region. The College was accredited by NAAC, Bangalore as a Grade ‘A’ Institution in 2004. In the II Cycle, in 2012 -13, it was re-accredited Grade ‘A’ with CGPA 3.26, by NAAC, (the CGPA of 3.26 being the highest in the region at that time). It was awarded College with Potential for Excellence (CPE) Status by the UGC, New Delhi, three times in successive plans and conferred Star College Status by the Department of Biotechnology, New Delhi in 2012. It has been recognized as Lead College by S.G.B.Amravati University, Amravati. It was awarded with ISO Certification and NAAC Mentor Institute under Pramarsh by UGC, New Delhi.
The infrastructure and on-campus facilities adhere to the set norms. These include spacious classrooms, 07 e-classrooms, a separate wing of well-equipped Laboratories in Life Sciences, advanced Computer Laboratories with Wi-Fi facility, two A-V Theatres, a Recreation Hall an enticing cafeteria amidst a beautiful setting, a fabulous College Garden, two Girls Hostels etc. The complete campus is under CCTV surveillance with security guards at appropriate stations. This has induced such a great feeling of safety that the number of girl students has risen gradually with every year; now almost 60 % of girls enrol in various courses every year. Highly-qualified and dedicated faculty represent the heart of the institution with 43 teachers holding Ph.D., 24 are Research Supervisors in 13 programmes, 110 Research Scholars currently work in the campus and 83 have been awarded doctoral degrees. The faculty members have published more than 800 research publications in the Journals of International & National repute with 05 Major and 30 Minor UGC and ICSSR approved projects to their credit. Consequently 350 students have secured place in the General Merit List of Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University in last few years.
The college has a spacious centralized and digitalized library with reference books, reprography facility, magazines, journals, newspapers and e-journals with separate browsing facilities for students as well as research scholars. Well-equipped Indoor and Outdoor playgrounds with the cultivated play-field and spectator’s gallery are the pride of our institute. A state-of-the-art Gymnasium is proof of the commitment of the college in promoting health and fitness. As a result of all this, 447 students have won the University Colour Coats in various sports, cultural and academic events. Vidya Bharati GEMS Society which is regulated and led by the student fraternity, conducts various student-centric Curricular and Co-curricular programmes to nurture creativity, passion and leadership quality. The Training and Placement Cell and Competitive Examinations Cell put in incessant efforts to inculcate employability skills among students. Vidya Niketan Study Centre is a separate Centre for students to study, discuss and interact under one roof. Social Outreach and Enabling Centre (SOEC) helps in instilling the values and commitment towards society, among students. Pratibha Women’s Studies Center, Enviro-Club, Club Sadhana, Club Shaurya, Club Malhar, Young Minds Club, etc. help in shaping the overall personalities of students.
Since its inception, the Institution has been endeavoring to reach the goal of imparting qualitative education in this region of Vidarbha. Now, under the dynamic leadership of present President of Vidyabharati Shaikshanik Mandal , Mr. Raosaheb Shekhawat, Former MLA, Amravati, the dream of Honb’le Former President of India, Mrs. Pratibha Devisinghji Patil and the Founder President Dr. Devisinghji Shekhawat is being carried forward in the cause of Education with the same zeal and industriousness.
