The realm of Zoology encompasses an extensive domain within systematic biology,
dedicated to the exploration of the animal kingdom's intricacies, spanning
structural peculiarities, embryonic developments, physiological intricacies,
evolutionary dynamics, taxonomical arrangements, and molecular intricacies. The
department's inception dates back to 1972, marked by the introduction of its
Graduate Programme. Notably, the Zoology Laboratory attained recognition as a
distinguished Ph.D. Research Centre under Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University,
boasting state-of-the-art facilities and comprehensive equipment. To date, the
department has proudly conferred doctoral degrees upon 20 Ph.D. research
scholars. A significant milestone was reached in 1995 with the initiation of the
Post Graduate Course in Zoology.
Pedagogical innovation underscores the department's ethos, as it employs a
repertoire of methods including seminars, group discussions, unit assessments,
and audio-visual aids to enhance the efficacy of teaching-learning endeavors.
Postgraduate students are offered a specialized track in Animal Physiology,
enriching their academic journey. Additionally, the department's research
endeavors have borne fruit with the completion of one Major Research Project and
accreditation for five Minor Research Projects sanctioned by the UGC.
Sustaining a tradition of academic excellence, the department boasts a
commendable track record, with 15 students securing coveted positions in the
Merit list of Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University. Furthermore, 16 students have
demonstrated their prowess by clearing NET and SET examinations, with two
qualifying for the prestigious Junior Research Fellowship. The department's
scholarly eminence is further exemplified by the conferral of Dr. Maulana Azad
National Fellowships upon three esteemed research scholars.
