9) The FOSSEE - Free/Libre and Open Source Software https://fossee.in (Open Access) The project at IIT Bombay has been promoting Free/Libre and Open Source Software (FLOSS) in a big way for a decade. It has created excellent free resources by contributions from students and faculty across India, and curated by the FOSSEE Team and other experts. FLOSS resources made available by FOSSEE will be very useful to colleges that plan to conduct online teaching in the next semester (Autumn 2020). Because of license issues, FLOSS is the only option for many institutions - this is the only product accessible to students from their homes. As a matter of fact, IIT Bombay is likely to use FLOSS in a big way during the next semester. Even if proprietary software is available, accessing the license keys through a VPN Server may create a lot of practical problems. Unauthorized use of commercial software is illegal and will bring a bad name to all. In this report, we point out some of the useful FLOSS and content available to everyone free of cost. We point out how to use them and how to get help, in case you plan to use some of them. We also invite everyone to join hands with FOSSEE and further improve the usability of FLOSS for the good of the Society. FOSSEE and Spoken Tutorial projects are funded by the National Mission on Education through ICT, Ministry of Education (Formerly MHRD), Govt. of India.

11) Directory of Open Access Books (DOAB)
https://www.doabooks.org
The primary aim of DOAB is to increase discoverability of open access books. Academic publishers are invited to provide metadata of their open access books to DOAB. DOAB is an open infrastructure committed to open science. It runs on the open source DSpace 6 platform. Metadata will be harvestable in order to maximize dissemination, visibility and impact. Aggregators can integrate the records in their commercial services and libraries can integrate the directory into their online catalogues, helping scholars and students to discover the books. The directory is open to all publishers who publish academic, peer reviewed books in open access and should contain as many books as possible, provided that these publications are in open access and meet academic standards.

12) Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ)
https://doaj.org
DOAJ is a website that hosts a community-curated list of open access journals, maintained by Infrastructure Services for Open Access (IS4OA).[1] The project defines open access journals as scientific and scholarly journals making all their content available for free, without delay or user-registration requirement, and meeting high quality standards, notably by exercising peer review or editorial quality control.[2] DOAJ defines those as open access journals where an open license is used so that any user is allowed immediate free access to the works published in the journal and is permitted to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full texts of [the] articles, or use them for any other lawful purpose.[2] The mission of DOAJ is to "increase the visibility, accessibility, reputation, usage and impact of quality, peer-reviewed, open access scholarly research journals".[3]
In 2015, DOAJ launched a reapplication process based on updated and expanded inclusion criteria. At the end of the process (December 2017), close to 5,000 journals, out of the 11,600 indexed in May 2016, had been removed from their database, in majority for failure to reapply.[4][5][6] This substantial cleanup notwithstanding, the number of journals included in DOAJ has continued to grow, to reach 14,299 as of 3 March 2020.[7]
As of December 2020, the independent database contains more than 15,647 open access journals and 5,478,8537 articles covering all areas of science, technology, medicine, social sciences and the humanities.[3]
DOAJ provides a spreadsheet on Google Sheets that has been updated since March 2014 and identifies the journals added and the journals removed with the justification for the removal.

15) Boston Book Company
http://www.rarebook.com
Our business was started in the late 70s by two women who opened a general old book shop with an emphasis on literature. Soon they had moved into general rare books as well. Charles joined his partner Helen Kelly at Boston Book Company in 1979 and became a principal, bringing his interest and specialization in Japan and East Asia. Within the last decade, books, albums and ephemera from this area have become our main emphasis. Charles spends about half his time in Japan and otherwise on the road, with a base in Kyoto. We are proud to have one of the finest inventories of its kind in the world.
Boston Book Company is located at 705 Centre Street in Jamaica Plain, a district of Boston, Massachusetts. In business since 1979, we are about to celebrate our 40th year selling books in Boston. The shop is located on the second floor of a 19th Century brick building in the downtown area of this Boston neighborhood.

18) The Universal Library
http://www.ulib.org
The principal benefit of the Universal Library will be to supplement the formal education system by making knowledge available to anyone who can read and has access. Libraries have played a vital role in the advancement of human society. Societal advance depends on young people having access to books via libraries and other means. We expect that making this unique web resource available free to everyone around the world will enhance the learning process.
Libraries are unevenly distributed around the world and within each country. In the U.S., the NCES Survey noted that in 1996, 3,408 of 3,792 institutions of higher education had libraries holding 806.7 million volumes. The 112 largest university libraries in the United States and Canada each have at least 1.8 million books. They are members of the Association for Research Libraries. Massachusetts has about 25 million volumes; New York has about 31 million volumes, and California has about 40 million volumes in their ARL Libraries (Association for Research Libraries, 1999/2000). Other states, such as North and South Dakota , have no large libraries. A few large public libraries have several million volumes. However, most junior colleges, high schools, and public libraries have much smaller collections. Making this large knowledge repository can revolutionize research at all levels of education and give a much-needed boost at minimal cost to our national educational infrastructure. This impact will be further enhanced given the convenience of online access, and the benefit of full text searching at word and phrase levels.
A secondary benefit of online search is to make locating the relevant information inside of books far more reliable and much easier. Student success in finding exactly what they seek will increase and increased success will enhance student willingness to perform research using this large resource. NCES reports that 84 percent of libraries around the country are open between 60 and 80 hours a week. This digital library would be open all the 168 hours the week on a 24x7x365 basis. More than one individual will be able to use the same book at the same time. Thus, popular works will not be checked out and thus unavailable to others.
This project will produce an extensive and rich test bed for use in further textual language processing research. It is hoped that at least 10,000 books among the million will be available in more than one language, providing a unique resource for example based machine translation.
Many believe that information is now doubling every two years. Machine summarization, intelligent indexing, and information mining are tools that will be needed for individuals to keep up in their discipline work, in their businesses, and in their personal interests. This large digitization project will enable extensive research in these areas.

19) OATD - Open Access Theses and Dissertations

23) The Internet Archive
http://archive.org
The Internet Archive, a 501(c)(3) non-profit, is building a digital library of Internet sites and other cultural artifacts in digital form. Like a paper library, we provide free access to researchers, historians, scholars, the print disabled, and the general public. Our mission is to provide Universal Access to All Knowledge.
We began in 1996 by archiving the Internet itself, a medium that was just beginning to grow in use. Like newspapers, the content published on the web was ephemeral - but unlike newspapers, no one was saving it. Today we have 25+ years of web history accessible through the Wayback Machine and we work with 750+ library and other partners through our Archive-It program to identify important web pages.

24) The World Digital Library (WDL)
http://www.wdl.org
Launched in 2009, the World Digital Library (WDL) was a project of the U.S. Library of Congress, with the support of UNESCO, and contributions from libraries, archives, museums, educational institutions, and international organizations around the world. The WDL sought to preserve and share some of the world’s most important cultural objects, increasing access to cultural treasures and significant historical documents to enable discovery, scholarship, and use.
After more than 10 years of operation, WDL is now celebrating its success as a world-wide collection of cross-cultural treasures by transitioning into a sustainable home for perpetual access on the Library of Congress’s main website. This transition is expected to be completed by the end of calendar year 2021, providing a view these resources as a coherent collection, while allowing the WDL material to benefit from ongoing enhancements to the loc.gov website.

30) VAIDIKA VIGNYANAM
Vignanam.org/mobile
Vaidika Vignyanam includes not just vedas, but everything that is derived from Vedas as well. If Vedas are like trees, then scriptures like Ramayanam, Bhagawad Gita, Slokas, Stotrams, Mantras, and Devotional Keertanas are like fruits and flowers from these trees. They are as as important and respectable as Vedas themselves. The goal of this Web site is to capture all of that information in a single place.
In this site, you will find the spiritual and devotional literature in various Indian languages. The purpose of this site is to serve everyone with the vast amount of Indian literature that is available, which is sometimes hard to find, especially on the Internet.
Please comment if there any typos in any of the stotrams. Although utmost care has been taken care to avoid typos and any mistakes, if you notice any errors, please point that out by emailing contact@vignanam.org. Finally, you are most welcome to contribute to the site. Your name will be recognized as the contributor of the content and if you are interested in adding content to the site, please visit https://www.vignanam.org/contribute.htm or email to contact@vignanam.org.
Most of the content in this site is based on Sanskrit or Samskritam. You can read translations to understand their content, but the best way would to be learn the language so that you can derive your own meaning. Samskrita Bharati (India and USA) is an excellent resource for learning the Sanskrit language. The Sanskrit Dictionary is also a valuable resource to find meaning of specific words. The beauty of the literature is realized if you can understand the individual words directly without the usage of any translation. Most of the translations miss the beauty of the literature, which is the poetry and the experiments with the words the author often performs. Most of the popular Sanskrit literature is in the form of poetry in the form of Slokas, Stotrams or Vedic Scriptures which adhere to a specific meter in chanting them, rather than prose which is a mere text explaining thoughts. The same meaning can often be expressed in a hundred different ways if written in prose, but when using poetry according to a Chandas (meter), one needs to be careful about the selection of the words. In ancient Indian literature written by enlightned Rishis, these Slokas or Stotrams often come naturally and the beauty of the Scripture is fully understood only when one goes back to the source by reading the Sanskrit Slokas and Stotrams and understanding them. There is so much power in these words that one is believed to attain Punyam (vitue) just by chanting these Slokas or Stotrams without understanding the meaning, but the benefit of chanting them by understanding every word of it is immensely powerful.
Vaidika Vignanam was founded in 2006 as an online collection of spiritual and devotional literature in Indian languages. It started as a blog and then later evolved into a full website in 2010 as https://vignanam.org. It was created primarily as a website to catalog the Stotrams for myself. Over time, it has emerged as a popular resource to find the lyrics to popular Stotrams like Hanuman Chalisa, Lingashtakam, Aditya Hrudayam, etc. in Indian languages. Over the past years, I have added several Stotrams to the site with help from other contributors. Our goal is to make it a resource for accessing all of our scriptures in one place.
My name is Srinivas Vadrevu. By profession, I am a Computer Scientist and a Software Engineer. I am also a spiritual seeker, and like many of you, I’ve been searching for the meaning of life for several years. Although I haven’t exactly found that yet, I have learned that the rich Indian culture I was born into offers me several ways to get closer to my answer and provide me the joy in living my life fully and happily. The primary tools that I use for this are Vedam, Samskritam, and Samskriti. Together, these essential tools have guided me and helped me to navigate this complex thing, known as life, and helped me face difficult situations.
I am grateful to have multiple key contributors and influencers over the years who motivated and helped shape the work and provided valuable suggestions and critical feedback, including my family members, friends, and well-wishers.
My humble Pranams and respects to my Poojya guruvulu Brahmasri Marepalli Naga Venkata Sastri garu. My sincere gratitude and respect to many of my Samskritam teachers and students at Samskrita Bharati over the past several years, who have guided me in my study of Samskritam. I am also grateful to my fellow Vedam and Samskritam students, who have helped me to see the right perspectives of life.

Sincerely,
Srinivas Vadrevu
