The subject of Physics has been vital for the survival and welfare of mankind on the planet Earth.
It has an intimate relationship with sources of energy. The Light, Heat, Matter and Energy are
extensively studied and taught in Physics. Physics involves the study of all forces and
interactions, both visible and invisible, which guide and control the functioning of entire
Universe. The subject Physics has a tremendous applied face and orientation and therefore its study
promotes great intellectual stimulation.
BEGINNING:
The Department of Physics was established in the year 1972, with Prof. P.D. Pethkar as its first Head. With the natural growth classes of B.Sc. I, II & III came into being. The Post Graduate course in Physics was introduced in the session 1993-94. Despite the fierce competition, the department has succeeded in producing spectacular results for the M.Sc. classes.
Transition Period & Onward Journey:
The College was completely shifted to the new building in 1985. The department succeeded in attracting and accommodating more number of students owing to the availability of the spacious laboratories adequately equipped with sophisticated equipment & infrastructure. Dr. F. C. Raghuwanshi took over as the Head of the Department on 31 December 2003 following the retirement of Dr. P. D. Pethkar who rendered distinguished services for the period of 31 years to this institution in general and the Department of Physics in particular. Dr. F. C. Raghuwansh selected as Principal of Vidya Bharati Mahavidyalaya, Amravati on 01 June 2009 and also worked as the Chairman of S.G.B. Amravati University Board of Studies in Physics and a member of the State Board of Secondary and Higher Education in Physics. He was elected as the Dean of Faculty of Science and Technology. Dr. N. G. Belsare took over as the Head of the Department on 01 June 2009 and was selected as the Principal at Brijlal Biyani Science College, Amravati on 24 June 2017. Dr. T. S. Wasnik was Head from 25th June 2017 to 30th September 2022. Dr. R. V. Joat was Head from 01st October 2022 to 31st July 2023and thereafter Dr. G. T. Lamdhade takeover the charge from 01st August 2023 to till date as a Head of Department.
