Vidya Bharati Shaikshanik Mandal considering the role of women in each sector, our inspiration Hon’ble Smt. Pratibhatai Patil (Shekhawat) encouraged the institute to initiate for the empowerment and upliftment of the women. With this objective in mind, Pratibha Women’s Studies Center is established in July 2009. The aim of the center is to develop the capacities and potential in the educated, employed, unemployed women and girl students from urban and rural areas of the Amravati region. The centre also facilitates to provide and develop confidence, administrative skills, communication skills etc. by giving the females support system and various platforms.

The primary aim of the centre is to generate awareness and sensitivity towards women’s issues in every field. Both the female and the male students, along with the teaching and non-teaching staff are involved in the activities. The study center encourages women’s academic development.

Objectives

1) To strengthen the capacity of women and help them to achieve upgraded skill and respectable place in the society.
2) To create awareness among the students on social, economic and cultural issues.
3) To undertake research on the state of women and students belong to economical backward classes, not only for urban but especially for semi-urban, rural and tribal areas in Melghat in Chikhaldara Dist. Amravati.
4) To generate awareness towards Women’s issues related to Health & Hygiene.
5) To sensitize the youth about promotion of Gender equality.
6) To promote awareness of Psychological Counseling and related Health problems.
7) To create awareness regarding Legal counseling and Women’s rights & laws.

Mechanism

Pratibha Women’s Studies Centre act as catalyst for promoting and strengthening womens` studies. With this view, the center work through teaching, research on socially relevant issues as well as organizing various collaborative and social activities especially in the areas of gender equity, economic and self-reliance, girls education, issues of women rights, laws, atrocities act, entrepreneurship, domestic violence and awareness on female Foeticide etc. These programmes have been carried out for students as well as teaching & non-teaching staff of the college and nearby society.

The Centre prepared perspective plan which is sanctioned by IQAC and further approved in College Staff Council meeting.

In order to discuss the transforming world of women on social, economic, political and professional fronts. The Pratibha Women’s Studies Centre organized a One day National Conference on ‘Feminism in Contemporary India (FICI)’ was held in 2012 and A National Conference on ‘Gender Isonomy: A Societal Onus’ (GISO)-2018 where many gender based issues were discussed at this platform with social expertise by renowned experts. The interfaces always involved the college male and female students on gender issues. The center also offered Certificate Courses in Gender Development and Gender Equality.

Keeping in view the objective of empowerment of women, the Womens` Studies Center has been organizing guest lectures on women’s role in families, relationship in families, balance diet, marriage as an ideal relationship, reproductive organs in humans and functioning, concepts of gender equality, feminism a thought, women and science, adolescence age, Nagari Hakk Abhiyan, education and culture, concepts of gender equality, Tarunyachha Umbarthyawaril Aavhane etc. Considering the importance of self-defense among girls’ students, demonstrations and training of Martial Arts (Karate) was provided to the girl’s students to strengthen their mental and physical abilities. A Medical Check-up Camp, Rubella Vaccination camp specially for girls, Dental Check-up Camp, ECG, Blood Pressure & Sugar Level Measurement Camp, Naturopathy Camp, Hemoglobin Check-up Camp for tribal women of Melghat Region, Salona Dist. Amravati organized as the regular feature of the centre.

The center has played an active role on the issues of Sexual Harassment in the college and actively coordinated and contributed to the government and university in framing of the policy against Sexual Harassment and its fulfillment.

Collaborative Activities

Pratibha Women’s Studies Centre has made the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with DISHA Rehabilitation Centre in 2014 and it was activated from 15 July 2014 up to 2024. The center organized Collaborative activity with DISHA Rehabilitation Centre, Amravati. With this MOU some objectives are fulfilled by both Vidya Bharati Mahavidyalaya, PWSC and DISHA Centre of which personality developments programs, promoting social sensitivity and awareness, finding applicability of academic knowledge and skills in practical social approach, developing leadership skills etc. Both the centres cooperated in organizing various workshops, conferences, seminars and other student’s centric activities.



Activities Conducted
