Vidya Bharati Mahavidyalaya is a premiere institution, imparting quality teaching learning to learners from diverse background which gets enrolled to the institution. Consequently, the learning interest and pace of every student is different. Therefore, some are not-so-gifted learners (Slow learners) and whereas some are gifted learners (advanced learners). In such a situation, it is very important to identify the learners and plan accordingly to deliver student oriented teaching-learning.

The college is committed to enhance the academic performance of the enrolled students, thereby, it makes due efforts to augment the academic performance of slow learners. In this regard, the college considers remedial coaching as a vital tool to upgrade the academic performance of slow learners. The slow learners identified on the basis of their performance in previous examinations, responsiveness in classroom teaching learning and after continuous monitoring in the class are encourage attending additional supportive classes to develop their interests in the subject. In addition, additional programs like group discussion guest lecturers interaction with subject experts, etc are conducted to provide additional support to them.

Apart from this, the slow learners are given additional study material and encourage solving previous examination papers of university. The faculty members remain in regular contact with slow learners within and outside the campus. This helps to encourage slow learners to share their queries and doubts with the teachers.

The faculty members encourage the advance learners to take participation in different activities like elocution, debate, quiz competition, etc. to provide righteous platform to develop the skills and abilities of advance learners. The faculty members remain in contact with the advance learners sincerely, which helps the advance learners to discuss and share their views on advance topics of the subject.

Mechanism of the Scheme

At the entry level, the students were assessed on the the basis of their performance in Learner‟s Aptitude Test, preceding examination, interest in chosen current subject, involvement in classroom teaching-learning, and learning pace of students. After the identification of the learners, the department prepares a schedule accordingly and allots the topics to the faculty members. The students and the teachers are notified about the schedule and details of remedial classes through notices. Then, the remedial classes are conducted regularly for the identified slow learners, as per the schedule. During these classes, additional study materials are also arranged by the faculty for the students to bridge the knowledge gap & enable them to cope with the academic course to which they are enrolled.

In addition, the departments organize different activity like group discussions, study tours, guest lectures along with interactions with the subject experts, etc.

    Specific steps adopted for slow learners:

    1.  Tutorials, discussions, interactions and remedial coaching.
    2.  Concept clarification and problem solving exercises.
    3.  Bilingual explanations and discussions.
    4.  Provision for simplified but standard lecture notes/course material.
    5.  Revision of topics and practical’s.
    6.  Enhancement of communication skills and art of reading-learning.

    For the advanced learners, the college makes due efforts by providing them adequate platforms.

    Expected Outcomes:

    1.  Improvements in university exam results of identified slow learners.
    2.  Enhancement in regularity and involvement in classroom teaching- learning.
    3.  Development of better and accurate sense of self with improved confidence.
    4.  Development and nurturing the deep understating of personal motivation.
